Great watch for the money Jul 13, 2010 Excellent dive watch. You can't get a better one at this price point and it's better than some more expensive watches. It's big and heavy but not so much that it's a problem. Keeps time OK but not as accurate as a Citizen that I have at around the same price. Love the orange color and I get a lot of compliments and questions about the watch. The best feature is that the bezel protects the glass surface well. I have used mine for diving and at the beach and it has no scratches on it. Only real negative is that you can not hand wind it like some other automatic watches. I like being able to wind a watch so that it does not stop if I decide not to wear it for a day.
Rugged Manly Watch with a 43mm Bezel May 22, 2010 I've heard about the Orange Monster for some time now. A famous watch with 21 jewel automatic movement (no batteries to replace) and while my watch collection is mostly watches with huge bezels in the 50-60mm range, I wanted a smaller automatic watch to wear while I jog and workout. I wanted a rugged watch. So with four monsters to choose from (black and orange with rubber and stainless steel bands; the yellow and blue colors are no longer available), I went with the orange and rubber match.
I love the fit, feel and sheer substantial weight of what is my smallest watch. The crown is at the 4 number so it doesn't dig into your wrist. Very comfortable. The numbers shine at night or in a dark room. I love that feature (common to dive watches).
My only complaint is you can't wind this watch. You have to shake or wear it every day to keep it going. In contrast, my other automatic watch, an Invicta Corduba, has a winding option, which I like since I don't wear the same watch (out of a 10-watch collection) every day.
I end up wearing the Seiko Orange Monster around the house when I do my chores, my yoga, walking the dog, jogging, etc. to keep it going so I don't have to reset it. If you want to spend a little more for a bigger bezel (48 without crown; 51 with) and enjoy the convenience of solar power, you might check out the Citizen Eco-Drive Diver BJ8050-08E with rubber strap for $215 or the $270 stainless steel Ecozilla version BJ8050-59E.
But if you want the smaller bezel and don't mind the non-winding option on an automatic movement, the Seiko Orange Monster is highly recommended.

orange monster is no real monster Jun 09, 2009 I recently bought a Seiko Orange Monster through Amazon. Overall I am quite satisfied with this experience. It was a good clean transaction with rapid shipment just as advertised. The watch keeps excellent time and is beautifully finished. The machining is clean and crisp as you can expect from Japaneese products. I cannot find a single flaw on it. It is for sure orange (but that's what I ordered). The only problem I have is that it is not quite as large as I had hoped for. It is a big watch when compared to a wenger GST for example but not as big as an Invicta Grand Diver. It looks sporty as well as somewhat dressy. It would look more dressy if you got a black one but if you are wanting "big" better go with an Invicta Grand Diver (not the pro Diver which is smaller). But again, Seiko makes some mighty good stuff for the money and if you are wanting accurate timekeeping and good waterproffing I think this is a good choice.
Very sporty watch Apr 28, 2009 Very nice watch for the cost, less than 200 dollars. Gains about a minute every two days. I can deal with that. Very easy to read in low light conditions. If you don't wear the watch all the time you can shake it back and forth for about a minute to keep it wound. My only regret when I purchased the watch is that I didn't get the metal band for an extra 15 dollars. Now I can't find one anywhere for less than 50 dollars. You can find the rubber bands everywhere for less than 20 dollars. But overall very nice watch.

Godzilla Lives !! Mar 17, 2009 Ok, so with the new 52mm or larger watches becoming the new standard of divers watches, the old "Orange Monster" isn't the behemoth it used to be.
But if you're looking for a watch that will outlast you, they don't come any better than this one. After 10 years, two crystals and six worn-out bands, my "monster" is still going strong. Yes, I had to repaint the numbers on the bezel twice, but its the least I can do to dress up an old friend. It still keeps good time and I'm pretty sure the automatic movement will outlive me. If you are looking for the "gold standard" in a traditional(and truly functional)divers watch you can't do much better than this classic.
